Strange & Unusual Spotlight:
Supposed haunted film
Documentary on Ammons haunting
Demon House is a documentary written and directed by Zak Bagans of Ghost Adventures fame and is based on the infamous Ammons haunting case, otherwise known as the “200 Demon House.” According to claims, a woman, her three children, and their grandmother all experienced paranormal events which resulted in several possessions inside the house.
The documentary was released in 2018 and starts off on a spooky foot: there is a disclaimer at the beginning, warning viewers that some demonologists believe that demon possession can occur through electronic devices (aka your TV), so viewers watch the film at their own risk. The documentary features interviews with family members, police officers, former tenants, psychologists, and even the priest that performed three exorcisms on the Ammons family.
To some, it might just feel like a long, drawn-out Ghost Adventures episode. Those watching it who do not believe in demon possession or are unfamiliar with Zak Bagans and his crew might find it slow-moving and dull with no real resolution. However, if you are a believer in the paranormal, it’s disconcerting to watch.
I watched the documentary in the middle of a bright, sunny day, and I was uncomfortable for the rest of the day. I was lightheaded and nauseous while watching it, and I had a headache for a few hours after turning it off.
For fans who dream of driving past 3860 Carolina Street in Gary, Indiana to see the Demon House for themselves will be disappointed to find out that Zak Bagans had the house destroyed in 2016 after finishing the documentary. However, the original staircase from the house sits in a pile of dirt from the home in Zak Bagans’ The Haunted Museum, if you dare to visit.
